Default Constant 12V Power

I am finishing up a lithium conversion on a Club Car DS and I am testing everything out and found out I have 12V regardless of key position. I bought this cart used with bad batteries so I have no way of knowing of this was like this before the conversion or not.

Is this normal or is there something wrong? I wasn't sure if the key only controlled the motor or not.

All depends on the converter and if it’s a 5 wire one vs a 4 wire etc. 5 wire ones will have the 5th wire that goes to the key switch. The normal 4 wire ones are always on unless you put a switch of some sort to kill the power to them.

Sounds like you have a 4 wire converter.

Thanks it is a 4 wire unit. So the key currently will only control the power to the motor is that correct?

I suppose I could add a relay to control the 12V circuit if I wanted.

Check out your converter and see how it's wired. Some are only 4 wire and they often are on all the time because they are harder to switch.

Mine is 4 wire. I just ran the 48v input to it through a HD toggle switch. That way I can have it off whenever I don’t want it and on if I do regardless of key position.

I like to be able to use the lights or music or whatever with the cart off and don’t like leaving the key on to do it, as I have little kids that like to play. Safer for them not being able to accidentally hit the pedal and go
