Marketplace VC625 for G22 & G29
On local Marketplace there is a listing for a 23 HP VC625 engine for Yamaha G22 & G29. Here is what they say:
NEW IN BOX 625CC 23HP BIG BLOCK ENGINE UPDATE KIT FOR 2005.5+ YAMAHA G22 & G29 DRIVE FOR YAMAHA GOLF CART 2005 AND UP G22 AND G29 On the side of the engine it says Vegas Carts on it. I see Vegas Carts are no longer supporting the 625. Would it be a mistake to purchase the engine? I will attach the pictures they are showing. Thanks |

If it were me....and it's anything dealing with a Yamaha, I'd call Don Plowman and ask his advice. He's a straight forward no-nonsense fellow who lives\breaths Yamahas. He will tell you if it's a good deal, great deal, or to run away from it.

Re: Marketplace VC625 for G22 & G29
The 625 was Vegascarts attempt to market an engine solely imported by them. In subsequent long term use it was learned that for whatever reason probably due the angle of installation or just movement of the cart it would lose pump pressure on the connecting rod and it would fail. It looks like the engine worked great in it's original usage but didn't fare well in carts. Using one of the 390-460 single cylinder engines or a Vanguard or Predator Vtwin is much safer and reliable engine swap for the yamahas.

Re: Marketplace VC625 for G22 & G29
I called Vegas Carts and this is the engine they sold but you still have to buy the installation kit to install in your specific cart. The engine sold for $850 and the seller is only asking $200 for the new engine so is still a great deal for someone that wants it. Downside is the installation kit for the G22 & G29 sells for $1264.99.
Here is the Marketplace listing for someone that is interested. Since I don't even have a cart like this to put it in I am going to pass on buying it. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...ssenger_banner |

Re: Marketplace VC625 for G22 & G29
I installed the 625 in my Yamaha G2 with no issues, but I did drop the swing arm brackets to insure that the engine sits level otherwise you could starve the engine of oil. I just did some performance upgrades after watching Red Beards Garage video about the VC625 on YouTube. The thing is an animal now.

I looked to see if VC was still selling the billet rod for the 625. Alas no.

Re: Marketplace VC625 for G22 & G29
I was lucky enough to grab one before they were gone. The only mod I didn’t do that Red Beard did was the carburetor upgrade, but still made a definite difference. I might do the carb upgrade in the future but like I mentioned in my post back when I did the big block swap, the carb is so close the frame rail that the air cleaner is a pain in the butt.

With the rod and valve springs I think you cured any potential issues. I watched that Redbeard video with great interest also.
