Default Lifted Precedent tie rods

It’s been a while since I’ve been on this forum. I have a gas Precedent now that a friend wrecked. It has a SGC 4” lift. I had to replace a king pin on the spindle that broke when she ran over a sign.

It is way out of alignment. SGC told me to take the tie rods off, get my tires toed correctly, then adjust the tie rods so they would drop into the spindle.

The problem is they do not turn. I’m watching YouTube videos of adjusting and it look’s easy. I would need a breaker bar to turn these.

Is it so far out of adjustment my issue?

As hard as it was hit, are the tie rods bent?

They don't look to be.

I tried taking the ends off to replace and can't budge them. I think someone cross threaded them pretty bad. Think I need to buy an 19mm wrench and use a breaker bar.

This saga continues. It was a 22mm on the tie rod ends. Still couldn't budge them. Decided to take the steering box out so I can get it over to the bench/vise.

Now can't get the box off the yoke. I'm using PB Blaster and a heat gun and still haven't gotten it off. Don't own a pickle fork. I'll buy one tomorrow if I can't get it off tonight.

Living around saltwater makes it difficult to work on these.

Have you tried quenching the rusted tie rods? You basically heat the stuck area with a blowtorch. Once it's nice and hot, dump a bunch of cold water on it. Try this a couple of times.

I've never used a blowtorch. You don't think the heat gun will get it hot enough?

Heat guns are usually not hot enough to break the rust, and of course don't overdo the torch because you might melt the metal.

Having the right tools is the ticket. Picked up a pickle fork today and two taps and the steering box was loose. Decided to cut a relief in the ends before wrenching them off. Came close to burning up my dremel. Still had to wrestle them off. Ran the nut up and down to try and clean up the threads. Hit it with a wire brush and the new ends screwed on with no resistance.

How do I get the steering box back in the knuckle? It took a pickle fork to get it out, so don't think it will slide back in easily.

Pounded it back in with a hammer. New ends adjust easily, so got steering wheel straight, got tires where they looked good, then adjusted until they dropped into the spindle.

Took it for a spin and the steering is tighter than before. Going to adjust the toe properly soon.
