I don't want to seem harsh but after reading all of this, lets be honest here, if you can't tell the difference between the starter just spinning a non running engine and a motor running and reving up then there is really no need to even raise the seat.
Push it on a trailer, take it to a dealer, have it repaired and then ride the wheels off of it while you become familiar with the service manual you should buy. Sorry, so I'm an *******.............. |

roaminggnome, have you ever driven a gas powered golf cart? The engine should start and be able to change it's RPM via the throttle. If yours cannot do this the engine is not running. It is merely being rotated by the starter motor at very low RPM. It will even push air out of the tailpipe because afterall, a gasoline engine is merely a glorified air pump.
