My 2pg is weak as well, I got a feeling that when I perform the compression test, it's going to be low, so at least a top end rebuild will be in order. Like mentioned earlier, the larger tires on your ride will only make climbing small hills and what not more challenging, and if the engine is weak, you could have a couple issues.

I would think that the governor not being hooked up wouldn't cause power issues when you hit an incline. The governor on my cart only comes into play at the higher RPM's while cruising. Now if it was installed and not adjusted correctly, it could be limiting your speed much lower than what you'd want, but I think you indicated that it was not hooked up at all. My $.02.

Ok good I am going to leave it as is lol. I will report back with what the current compression is and figure out were I go from there. I don't want to have to rebuild the top end before summer but if I know it will give me good improvement in performance I probably will. Do you have any idea what it cost's to do a top end rebuild?

ah OK that's not bad is it really labor intensive or not to bad? I can visibly see the top end and access it easily so I don't think getting it out should be all that bad.

not really labor intensive. a buddy and me lifted the motor out and did it all in about 5 hrs, including honing the cylinder.make sure of the ring size.it might be oversized up to only .50 according to Yamaha.

I ended up going back with a stock belt for night now. TX Buggies did an excellent job at descrbing how to do a compression check.

heres a wiring diagram , and torque specs.

most 80's ez-go smokers use these specs.

I have oversize tires on mine and it will go up almost any hill you can find.
(also have governor unhooked)
I believe your problem might be compression.
