Fuel pump not working
Hi everyone!
Have a 1990 carryall. I've tried 3 different new fuel pumps and none of them will pull gas from the tank. Even tried a piece of fuel line stuck straight into the tank and nothing. Seem to be getting pressure from the crankcase hose. Any ideas whats going on? Thanks in advance! |

Re: Fuel pump not working
The only ones I've done take about 5-10 seconds of cranking to pull fuel up from the tank and into the filter first. Then takes maybe another 10 seconds to go from pump to carb and fill the carb bowl enough to get it to fire.
Are these the plastic fuel pumps? They have different hose locations than the original metal pumps. Make sure the inlet and outlet hoses are on the right ports with the arrows point the right direction for fuel flow, and the pulse hose from the engine goes on the P port. |

Re: Fuel pump not working
Thanks for the response. Yeah, its a metal fuel pump and all the connections are right. One of my lawn mowers uses the same style fuel pump and i tried that on the cart and I know that pump works.

Re: Fuel pump not working
no kinks or holes in any lines. its brand new and i've even replaced all the lines again jus t to make sure or that. The crankcase tube pulses and you can feel the pressure quite well. When hooked to the fuel pump though it just seems like you can feel it blowing on the outlet side but not sucking on the inlet side. i know one fuel pump works for sure.

Re: Fuel pump not working
Is the valve on top of the tank in the correct position to allow fuel to flow?

Re: Fuel pump not working
Also, the 'dip tube' in the tank may have broken off

Re: Fuel pump not working
agree
was thinking valve open and it dip tube on the other side of the hose connection on tank to be able to suck fuel out of the tank. |

Re: Fuel pump not working
And you said you even tried a new hose from the pump straight into the tank?
You might need to prime the pump? Get an oil bottle with a nipple (like a 1qt gear oil bottle has) and put 1/2 cup of gas in the bottle. Remove the suction hose at the tank and stick the bottle nipple in the hose so it fills the filters and pump, then hook it back up to the valve on top of the tank. |
