ok that was on the side close to the belt directly under were the muffler bolts to the motor is says J38

sorry guys it was 285cm3 and J38 does anyone know what motor that is ?

sorry again i reread the thread and it seems someone said its a g9 motor if it says 285cm
is there any other motor with that stamp? or does this only apply to the g9 thanks again everyone for all the help i will be posting lots of pictures on my build thread once i get the motor running right... |

but if i was to order a piston and ring kit do they come in g2-g9 or do i need to know exactly which motor i have and is there any other way of telling

tonights progress ..... it runs fine with no air filter or box and i re routed the valve cover hose.... im going to let it sit over night and go from there

a g-9 and g-14 look identical, the only differance in the engine is the piston, if yr fuel cap is under the seat it is a g-14 but as for the air filter its a g-9 stlye ,the g-14 is a mixed breed,a g-8e was electric and only made for 1 year and has the body of a g-16, look on the steering colum ,usally a stamp there
