Re: G1 "Not Charging"!
WOW
With a direct ground from the battery to the V/R I get a reading of "approximately" 10.9- 11.2 volts (at 3/4 throttle) its not steady but a definite improvement (I have adjusted the screw on the V/R almost all the way in.) It looks like I may be on the right track! Any more advice is Greatly appreciated! |

Re: G1 "Not Charging"!
Nice to know. But be ready with your multimeter. You don't want an overcharging situation.

Re: G1 "Not Charging"!
Yes, grounding should be either to the negative battery pole or A1 pole of starter. And be sure to have firm connections.

Re: G1 "Not Charging"!
If you can read ohms with your meter, you can check the red and green wire leaving the starter and it should read 5-6 ohms. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think if you are seeing those numbers your starter/charger is working correctly and the problem is somewhere else.=possibly ground

Re: G1 "Not Charging"!
I am beginning to lean toward it being the S/G because tonight when I went to put it away, it would start in reverse but in forward it would just lope slowly!
I put the charger on it and it took a while to get it to turn over. I do think it has a ground issue as well though. If anything good is coming from this, its that I an getting an education. With allot of help from the great folks on this forum! |

Re: G1 "Not Charging"!
Yep, its fun figuring these things out. I have had the entire motor out of mine, put a complete new wiring harness on it, had the starter off, the exhaust off and other things just cleaning and understanding how it works. I knew nothing about these when I bought mine but I learned its pretty simple when you do some reading and take your time. I hope you get yours figured out. I went through the same thing when I bought mine with the charging issue. The voltage regulator adjustment fixed mine.

"OldG1", where did you get your wiring new harness and how much did it cost?

Re: G1 "Not Charging"!
I posted a new thread on this but I haven't received any response so I though I would post it here since it relates to the same issue.
Before I spend $150. dollars on a rebuild for this S/G, I need to make sure That I am connecting everything correctly. I have Connected F1 to the positive terminal F2 to the Negative side of the Solenoids (center post that are all joined and are connected to the negative battery post) A1 to one solenoid A2 to the other solenoid I have found that you cannot reverse the two solenoids or the cart will not run. I have not been able to get the S/G to charge the battery (getting a max of 11.5 volts from the Regulator after grounding directly to the Negative Battery post) (also checked a different regulator, tried adjusting the screw etc...) Now, even with a full charge on the battery, I can not get the cart to start in the forward position, the S/G just lopes over as if it may have a flat spot on the armature. It will however start in the Reverse key position. I read "Spriddle's" "Sticky" on "Yamaha Starter/Generator Cable Placement"... F2 (front of st/gen) connects to short pos. cable coming off the solinoid A1 (passenger side bottom) connects to the neg. side of battery A2 (passenger side top) wraps around to the back of the starter/generator to F1 (small red cable from side to back of st/gen.) However mine was not wired this way originally, so I am a bit confused by this. Any and all help on how this is suppose to be connected is greatly appreciated! |
