Say Andy, are you saying the motor in the picture will fit an 86-87? As far as I knew, the 86-87 model years came with a helical input gear on the armature shaft.

Re: Help choosing the right speed controller for 1986 or 1987
WTG Andy, ya' made me look....
As I recall, Dana axles were not available to EZGO in mid 86 thru 87. EZGO had to go elsewhere for axles so for +/- a year and a half non-Dana axles were installed in many vehicles including the X440, X444, and many others. This picture is a motor off a late 86 X444. It's the stock 2hp GE. You can see the helical gear on the armature shaft that mated with a differential that looks uncannily similar to the picture of the axle the OP posted. CC may have used the same axle mfr. maybe from Dexter or AAM but that's just a SWAG since I have no clue who made the axle. Just not Dana.... It's just good for all to know that there were some variances in axles/differentials among the different model EZGO's during that time period. Best bet is to pull and inspect before buying a product for EZGO's from that era. |

Yes there are so many differant rear ends out there you never know. That's why I wanted him to pull the motor to see what it looked like. That rear end he pictured looks like my old truckster rear end. Someone could have put a bunch of differant parts on it you never know.

Re: Help choosing the right speed controller for 1986 or 1987
I installed the 400a controller today, and did not notice much of a difference, next on the list is to send the motor to PQ, I will post pics of the motor when I get it pulled off to settle some of the questions. Any other suggestions to get some more torque out of the motor until I have it rebuilt? I already have 4ga cables. Im trying to avoid going to 48v unless its absolutely necessary.
