Re: Marathon Engine Issues
Yeah no kiddin', I'll probably do that tomorrow. I'll have to lift up on the clutch too, see if it's got any play, hopefully not, that's a lot of money to get fixed. :(

Re: Marathon Engine Issues
2stroke your right ! the exhaust has to be removed to take the engine out so you've lost no time. By the way your piston SUCKS probably lack of oil at some point or a real lean mix and wide open throttle for a long period of time 3-4 miles

Re: Marathon Engine Issues
Sucks is right!! I'm guessing it was the oil injection system. That is why I plan to remove it when I do the rebuild. I do have a question about the drivetrain. (I'm sure the answer is on the forum somewhere but I can't locate it). The carb has 3 cables running to the throttle side of it. 1 is the gas pedal cable, one is the oil injection system, but what is the other device? I followed the cable down to the drivers side of the cart. It is connected to a lever that when the accelerator is push it extends the arm away from the drive system. When the accelerator is off, the arm goes back to touch the plastic cap on the drive system. Am I missing a part?

Re: Marathon Engine Issues
Thats the governor. Sounds like yours has been disengaged, and by the sounds of it you are missing the button that holds the arm to the cap.

Re: Marathon Engine Issues
So the cap is supposed to be attached to that arm in some form or fashion? I'll post pic in a few

Re: Marathon Engine Issues
Hey 2stroke,
Welcome here. I went through the same rebuild process on my '93 earlier this year and got some great help from members on the forum. My Thread is here: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-e...s-rebuild.html Possibly a read through might get you all prepped up for you're looking at. Have fun. And BTW, BBQ the muffler when you have it off. |

Re: Marathon Engine Issues
Thank! I'll give it read!
My muffler is solid rust...I'm afraid if I bake it it will just fall apart. Probably going to have to get a new one. |

Re: Marathon Engine Issues
2 Stroke most of us has removed the governor but be careful not to let some one use it that is not aware of its potential 5000 rpms and below. That said I removed mine and made a simple throttle stop so when the granddaughter is riding she can press the throttle pedal as far as she can but can't over rev. She has no fear and now is in Quarter Midgets so maybe the cart will be spared
