Rear tires are on full weight on ground. Be sure to have jackstands under the front axle so full weight is on front suspension and axle isn't "hanging".

My straight edges are just two pieces of square stock aluminum 3 feet long I had laying around. Be sure the pieces you use are straight. They are held to the front hub with a spring clip.

Like mentioned before there are other ways but this is most accurate.

So the straight edge is on the outside of rear tire (on the rubber) and the other end of the straight edge is clamped on the front hub with the tire taken off as shown in pictures?

Forget the rear tires. My straight edge is only 3 feet long. It ONLY touches the front hub. That's it.

However far FORWARD from the hub you take your measurement, you need to go that far IN BACK OF the hub to take your rear measurement. Front measurement should be 1/8" less than rear one.

Correct. I usually measure where the front tire would be front and rear. Say I have a 23" tire. I'll measure 11.5" from hub center forward and mark a line on the straight edge (where the tape measure is in the picture). Then I'll measure 11.5" from hub center to the rear of my straight edge and mark a line (not pictured).

Hey Sportcoupe, I see a marketing opportunity!! We could make plates to bolt on in place of the wheel, with telescoping (adjustable) tubes that could be set for the tire size! "FULLY ADJUSTABLE TOE-IN KIT"
