another newbie question
Has anybody ever used a lawnmower motor and whatever else would be needed to make one of these run instead of the batteries? I have a good spare lawnmower that I was thinking about trying to convert it all to the cart.

Re: another newbie question
Good luck!
IMO... it would be easier to sell your lawnmower, save up some money, and buy some batteries! or... sell both, and buy a gasser! my .02 |

Re: another newbie question
Anything is possible. You must first look at the overall costs for the project. I would say a set of batteries will be the cheapest remedy...

Re: another newbie question
yea i know buying batteries would be the cheapest and easiest but i thought that i might be able to get a little more speed out of the lawnmower engine. what do you guys think.

Re: another newbie question
I don't think so. What engine? What are you going to use ar a rear end / transmission?
Buy batteries and a high speed motor! You'll be better off in the long run |

Re: another newbie question
i believe its an 18 horse and i was gonna try and use the tranny and rear from the lawnmower in some way. I see videos of people putting motorcycle engines on them on youtube so i figured this could be possible too.

Re: another newbie question
OK, so if you're going to use the lawn mower motor, tranny and gears how fast does the mower go now?

Re: another newbie question
i dont even know that much. i have no real way of telling. i never rode a golf cart either and this one i just bought needs batteries so it doesnt run so im guessing it might be fast enough the way it is and i should just put batteries on it and be done. it was just an idea with the lawnmower.

Re: another newbie question
All that's needed to determine your actual speed is a good GPS like a Garmin. It will tell you your actual speed in MPH.

18 hp is a good size for a cart... BUT... if it has a vertical shaft (crankshaft pointing down) It's going to take some serious engineering to get it to work! (especially with an electric transaxle) It may cost more then you expected, or want to spend for batteries, but, IMO your best bet is new (or used) batteries! |
