Engine stutters/runs erratic

did you check your fuel supply,,? could be dirty fuel filter, fuel pump, or the vacuum hose that runs the pump, it goes from the carb to the engine -right next to where you check the oil,[dip-stick]. just take it off at carb and blow, it should be free.. might be a gas problem, try running with the choke out a little. that will make the system draw harder,, good luck. oh yea don't forget to check the fuel tank, take the hose assembly out and blow through it.. and lastly. did you say you checked to see the float was free?
