Cables burnt on gas cart.
I have a 2000 gas club car. It has a rear seat. I had 4 adults( not big people) on it this weekend. I went about 1/4 mile and the positive and negative cable coating burnt off. Not sure if the voltage regulator is bad. Any info? Thanks,Tim

Re: Cables burnt on gas cart.
I've never known a gas cart to move that kind of amps/heat around the system unless there was a severly corroded cable or direct short.
Weight or load should have no bearing on that part of the electrical system unless the suspension compressed low enough to ground a pos cable somewhere. Replace both of your cables, check your poss and neg connections. Take a voltage reading from the battery while not running, then in neutral take another reading at battery while running 1/2 throttle. what are the two readings? |

i thought maybe they touched somewhere but after thinking about it i don,t know, you would think if it were a short or loose cable cart wouldn,t even work and i just assumed all was working................................

Re: Cables burnt on gas cart.
I agree Tom, on a gas cart, the amps just arent there for any length of time like an electric cart.
I'm thinking corrosion, then resistance, then heat build up. This is going to be interesting....... |

Re: Cables burnt on gas cart.
Found the problem. Stock leaf springs compressed down and grounded out the starter/gen. on the frame. I switched to 3 leaf springs. This should work. Thanks for help.
