ICON 40L AGMs
New 40L with AGM batteries. Can anyone point me to charging/maintenance info. Curious if I should be charging after short trips where I use 3-5% of capacity or wait till a certain charge level like 70%?

Welclome to agm club ...there is one other also with and ICON... all lead acid batteries should be recharged at the end of the day or duty cycle. This regardless of what local gc owners say they do. I charge my Crown agm 6crv 260ah (8x6v) at the end of each day that I run my cart. Plus with my Eagle Pro charger the cart can be left charging 24/7. The Eagle Pro can bulk, absorb, finalize, float and equalize balance charge. I cannot recommend the Lester Summitt II series of chargers as one of these over volt charged at 67-68v endlessly on phase 2 without ever concluding the charge cycle on my previous set of Crown agms 6crv 220ah, and ruined them. So in conclusion charge at the end of each day to obtain the best long life possible from your agms. Monitor your charging volts your agms should be kept below 60v. Had I known this I would have sought a solution prior to. Currently my agms have been in use for over 1 year..as well as a little over 5000 reliable miles. Happy cartin' |

Re: ICON 40L AGMs
From what I have seen online, Crown cyclic charging specifications are 7.2 to 7.41 volts for their 6 volt AGM ... which work out to 57.6 to 59.28 volts for a 48 volt battery pack.
The Trojan AGM charging specification is at the lower end of that range at 2.40 volts per cell or 57.6 volts for a 48 volt battery pack. As CartRFun points out, excessive charging voltage shortens the life of an AGM battery dramatically. I recommend that you monitor your charging voltages to ensure that they are within your battery manufacturers specification. |

Re: ICON 40L AGMs
Thanks ThreeCW
I keep a log recording : start miles stop miles, start volts stop volts rest volts, amps out amps in This helps keep track of how my battery pack is performing. When I balance, equalize charge my battery pack the initial charge voltage may go to to 59 maybe 60 volts briefly and settle down to about 57ish varying up - down a volt until the balance equalize charge is completed... I highly recommend the Eagle Pro 4818i charchger... Happy cartin |
