OK, I took the mystery part out of the loop. Now I have 42V to all points of the sol, into the controller, out of the controller, and aoo of the connections at the motor. No click when pressing gas pedal, but when I flip the run/tow stitch to tow for a few mins then flip it back to run the sol does click at the flip of the switch then about 15 seconds later the sol faintly clicks again. Should I get ANY type of action at 42V?

You must have 48+ volts for the controller and solenoid to work. Can you post pictures of the battery connections and the mistery box? It wasn't a OEM Yamaha part I've ever seen.

Are there only 2 wires coming out of it? One to 48 volts positive and the other going to 48 volts negative? Saw a car this week that had what was called a "battery tender", but only had the 2 leads, that's just not right.

It looks like a voltage reducer similar to a club car. Not saying this what you have but 16 volts go to the + of the lights, - of the lights go to one side of the reducer, the wire coming out goes to the - of the 16.
