Default Alltrax XCT400 Fan Not Running

ScottyB recently set me up with a new Alltrax XCT400 and the XCT add on fan kit for my EZGO PDS. My cart is running awesome with the new controller, 4G cables and heavy duty solenoid.

I have not noticed the fan running. I have even driven the cart with the seat off to check it. I then marked one of the fan blades with a Sharpie to see if it spins. The Sharpie marked blade is still in the same position.

Should the fan run all the time or does it only run once the controller is under a heavy load or heats up to a certain point? I'm going to be taking the cart to a very hot area (110°+ F) for about one week and want to make sure the fan is working correctly.

It probably only comes on at a certain point and cool it to that point then cut off. My guess at least?

The Alltrax XCT fan operates on a thermal switch. When the controller reaches a temperature where it calls for cooling the fan will come on and you will hear it with the seat down if you listen. Yesterday So Cal temps hit 110º. I got in a cart that was sitting in the sun with a thermal coupler on the motor which displayed on the dash 112º. As soon as I drove 50 ft the fan came on

There is a "Fan Test" is the Toolkit program.

I've never tried it, but it probably toggles the fan on and off to test it while the XCT is connected to a laptop.

Do as JonnyB suggests and test the fan using the software. My fan often comes on briefly when I turn the key on. My fan only runs on a hot day after a fairly long run though. I often hear it running when I pull into my garage after a run back from my golf club - about 3/4 of a mile at 25MPH.

I can drive a fair distance before my fan comes on. (Mile at least) It's not real loud, but I can hear it with the seat down. (When stopped) I'm not sure, but I think you have to have the key on. So if you drive for a awhile and it's just about to come on, but you shut off the key, it may never come on. It could be that the fan stops in the same place every time.

No way it would stop in the same place every time! Test it using the PC App!!!

Uh, I tried using the test program in the software on my SPM 48500 and it came up saying fan not tested.

Not sure that one has a fan. The XCT has an optional fan.

I have noticed to test the fan on spm models the pedel must be pressed to turn the controller on. Spm will turn the fan on under heavy loads and high heat.
