Electrical issue
I’m have an electrical issue with my 2003 Club Car DS. Today I accidentally touched two wire posts on the electric motor with a wrench. That caused a spark and caused the diode on the Solenoid to get really hot. I quickly unhooked the batteries after checking to see if it would go forward, which it didn’t. Now I’m trying to hook the batteries back up and it sparks every time I touch a wire to the positive or negative post. Any clue on what I’ve damaged? Possibly the diode on the solenoid...

Re: Electrical issue
Anyone willing to wade into this question. I’m up for any advice even if it’s not very good.

Re: Electrical issue
It was the diode that got hot. I have since replaced the controller and diode. I hooked up the batteries and jumped on to try it out. It backed up ok, but started making noise in the back end. I tried to pull forward and he wouldn't go. I stepped on the gas a couple of times and he eventually lunged forward then I stopped it. Now it won't for forward or backward...
I can hear the solenoid clicking so I'm not sure what my issue is now. Any help? It is an 03 Club Car DS electric. |

Re: Electrical issue
Did you set the tow/run switch to tow before disconnecting or connecting any wiring to batteries or controller harness? What repair/maintenance were you attempting when the wrench touched motor terminals?

Re: Electrical issue
The resistor that is attached to the larger terminals of the solenoid is getting hot?
If you have the original Curtis controller, touching the motor terminals together while the battery pack is connected shorts the controller and kills it. The field driver in the controller is toasted and it's drawing current through the resistor even though the controller is off. It makes the resistor heat up and it will burn out. Unfortunately it means you need a new controller, or will have to send that one off to be repaired. |
