Idle Mod, Relay vs black wire disconnect
I did the black wire disconnect on the micro switch idle mod about 7 years ago, and seems to work as it should, it idles and the volt meter goes up above the 12v mark so its charging some I would assume.
Then why does the idle kit ( https://www.buggiesunlimited.com/gol...Tuning_Kit.pdf ) include a relay and require some re arrangement of the wires? I understand the spring for the clutch is to get a higher idle speed in order to get more charge. |

Re: Idle Mod, Relay vs black wire disconnect
I also have the black wire disconnected so my cart idles. (about 11 years now)
Let me see if I can explain this... If you've had any familiarity with BU before they sold to Nivel, they were THEE place to get cart parts online... (or so most people thought) There were numerous people wanting their cart to key start and/or idle, and because Club Car "key start" vehicles used a relay, my guess is that BU thought they'd try to do something similar. So, here's the deal... BU needed something to SELL! so they came up with the relay setup to make people believe that they have something extraordinary! (and obviously you can't "sell" disconnecting a wire from a microswitch!) That's just the way BU worked! The clutch spring actually keeps the drive clutch from engaging at lower RPM's because some carts won't idle low enough before the clutch engages the belt. (The clutch spring is probably the only thing worthwhile in that kit.) I hope that explains it! |
