AXE or SPM controller
I'm upgrading my 93 Marathon to 48 volts and need a new controller. I've read around the forum a bit but haven't found a direct comparison between the two.

Re: AXE or SPM controller
There really is no comparison. The SPM replaced the AXE 2 years ago. It has features like reverse polarity protection on the input & output ends that is missing on the AXE. It is usb cable programmable as opposed to serial to usb. Speaking of programming it has customizable speed and torque curves. Auto throttle calibration, even if your throttle is out of range it makes your signal 0-100% and more... like I said the closest comparison is your dad's flip phone and your iphone.

Re: AXE or SPM controller
I used to think the AXE had just a bit more "punch", but the SPM has 10-20% more amps for the same rated controller. The short-circuit protection offered in the SPM is real & does work, i accidentally tested it (something the AXE cannot offer). Continuous ratings (how long it can supply its highest currents) are better for SPM. Throttle options and auto-calibration favors the SPM. Overall SPM wins.

Re: AXE or SPM controller
More "punch" would just be a matter of throttle adjustment since the SPM has higher peak and sustained amperage output you are just talking throttle up rate. Again, flip phone to smart phone technology in my opinion.
