Re: Controller Mapping
That is what the controller uses too. I built a speedometer using the sensor pulses. Works great.

Re: Controller Mapping
I mean I would have preferred a device that actually put out an RPM value rather than calculating it. Testing motors with "high speed" magnets on the same setup would show as going half their actual speed. (thus how they fool the control into going faster) It isn't difficult to adjust the data accordingly just obnoxious.

Re: Controller Mapping
Anything that measures RPM has to calculate it. The pulse tach is a great way to measure RPM. You get either 2 or 4 cycles per rev depending on whether your magnet is 4 or 8 pole.

Re: Controller Mapping
Pre-calculated and calibrated so I don't have to do it with my questionable script writing skills. There are optical encoders out there that use a strip of reflective tape. So it wont depend on the motor magnet and would probably be a 'true-er' RPM reading since it just counts the passes of the reflective surface over time. Then I don't have to adjust MY programming, MatLab never was my forte.

Re: Controller Mapping
The sensor has it's own magnet and they are deadly accurate if you count the pulses / measure the pulse period. There is really no advantage of optical for this application or the golf cart manufacturers would use them.
