Default Fuel & Electronics?

I purchased a 1997 G16. The cart ran fine during test run and on the 4 mile ride home I was doing about 22 MPH. The next time I took it for a ride I had to get towed home. The fuel filter was empty so off to the store to get new fuel pump. That did not solve the problem. Pump pumped fuel good into a can when I disconnected the fuel line just before carb. Dipstick and oil fill cap are tight and all hoses seem to be good. At some time while trying to figure the problem I appear not to be getting any spark at the plug. I understand that the fuel pump works off the pressure from the crankcase. Could this be a problem with the igniter coil or the stop start relay?
Any answers or additional questions That I can answer let me know!
Thank You

That should have the coil on the flywheel unless its a G14 I think still had the ignitor. I would probably get a new plug for it and try that, I'd pull the bowl off the carb and shoot carb spray right up the main jet, look into the carb it should come out inside. Then try to start it. They can foul a plug for little reason if its been in there a while. If nothing then look for fuses and wiring issues before you buy a new coil or something. I don't know if that coil can be tested maybe it can I don't have that manual if it is a G16. Usually if the solenoid is bad it does not turn over either.

Thanks for the reply sho305. I have checked fuses, replaced carb, fuel pump, It runs for a while then dies. I mean maybe a mile or so then it dies. When it will not start again, the fuel filter is empty, maybe from trying to restart. I have noticed at times no spark. Do you think that the plug or the ignitor coil could be shutting down when heated. It sat for a few days, I just went out and pulled the choke, stepped on the gas, and after about 2 seconds cranking it started right up. I have checked as much of the wiring as I can see with nothing found. I will go and get a new plug and start working my way up to the expensive ignitor coil.
Thanks Again

Ignitors can do that but they are expensive its best to swap one and then you know. Coils seldom fail so I don't know what they do, I've never seen a bad one. You can test ohms on a coil too. I'd also put a new plug in just in case, to try that. I don't know why its out of fuel though, that should not happen. Filters will have air in them they look that way normally, but some fuel should be in there. It depends on what angle they are installed.

The symptom of a bad TCI (on G16 and up Yamaha's) is it will run till it gets warm, then lose spark, then when cooled down, it will spark again till it gets warm. A dynamic spark tester can verify this.

this is a longshot, but will only take a few seconds to try out - loosen the gas cap and take a ride, see if that helps. Sometimes the vents get plugged on older carts and when it sits for a bit the negative pressure eases so the cart will start and run off what's in the float bowl then can't pump enough gas to refill it so it'll die, let it sit for a bit and she'll do the same thing again. Like I said, longshot but worth 2min of your life to eliminate as an issue

I went out this morning as in the past, the thing started right up, ran for about 3 minutes then died. I ran a wire from the battery right to the ignitor coil, T.C.I. whatever, same results , no start.... Looks like I have to buy a new Ignitor coil.
Thanks for all the advice, I will be online tonight trying to find one on-line. Any suggestions where to get quality and a good price?

You may have had the bad luck of the TCI going out,but if you buy an aftermarket one, good luck. Spend the 120.00 or less on another OEM.
