Yamaha Gas Vs Others
2013 Yamaha Drive Gas
vs 2008 EZGO RXV Gas Both are priced the same with exact same features (seat/wheels/lights/etc) And, go... why one over the other? Will not be lifted and used to ride the neighborhood and cart paths in the area. Thanks |

Re: Yamaha Gas Vs Others
Silly rabbit has a point and being on the Yamaha page we are all going to be a little biased of course but the best thing is just check then over good pay attention to the clutch sheeves make sure they are smooth and not dished if they are equal in how good of shape they are test drive them both I prefer my Yamaha over through ezgo

Re: Yamaha Gas Vs Others
We just picked up a Yamaha 2010. Side by side with the club car it rode so much smoother. Wife noticed the difference and said no question.

Re: Yamaha Gas Vs Others
Check wear and tear, just like buying any motorized toy. Difference is, unlike a sxs or atv, the clutches and belts and stuff are wide open in a golf cart.
Look for clutch wear, belt condition, oil leaks. Drive it and listen for out of place noises, ticks, knocks, vibrations, grinding, etc. Check suspension, steering, wheels for any signs of play or looseness. I would get some of the q-tips like doctor offices have that are a foot long. Pull the dipstick and plunge it in until it bottoms out and swab it around the bottom real good. Look for any signs of shine or glitter on the q-tips. They can change the oil so it's nice and clean but if beaeings/rings/cylinder/etc has wear they can't flush out the glitter very easily. It glues itself pretty good to the bottom of the motor cases. Do the same for the rear differential. I would bring a compression tester with me as well. Testing compression and looking at the spark plug can tell you a book about what kind of condition the motor is in. Check body and frame mounts foe stress, cracks, worn bushings, etc. Without seeing them both it's impossible for anyone to give a reliable recommendation. Yes the Yamaha is 5 years newer but if it was rode hard and put away wet, it can be cleaned up to look like new but may not be in the best shape internally. And maybe the ezgo was owned by an elder couple that just used it to get the mail and internally is like new even though it's older. Without a thorough inspection you never know. Time, research, and inspection make the difference between buying something that will stand the test of time and a clapped out piece of junk someone couldn't get rid of fast enough. |

"I would bring a compression tester with me as well. Testing compression" I'm not sure about the ezgo but the Yamaha has a compression release so a compression check will not help

You ain't jamming no wooden sticks in my motor till the money is exchanged. You break the stick in my motor, then walk away saying "nah, I don't wanna buy this one!", eff no! This idea is hilariously bad for the seller!

Re: Yamaha Gas Vs Others
Even with compression release you can still check compression. Book gives a spec for compression testing even with release. If it's below what the book specs then walk away or negotiate accordingly

Re: Yamaha Gas Vs Others
Also just to note, I buy broken 4wheelers, dirt bikes, etc regularly. I enjoy the project aspect of making them work but once they do work I lose interest. My advice comes from many years both as hobby and as professionally (I am certified ase master, mse, mecp certified). Really when I buy something, it's sight unseen with worst case in mind. Right now I have a 2009 Honda recon that "needs carb cleaning" torn down to replace crankshaft and bearings as well as all the other stuff because they ran it out of oil. But if I'm buying and paying full price for something running that "needs nothing" I always beware. Everything needs SOMETHING. sometimes something small sometimes something big that's covered up by a vehicle that.othwrwise looks amazing.
Just my .02 but I've rebuilt enough engines that "need nothing" to know better |
