Just in case people are reading this in the future: the answer is yes, the negative side is expected to get 48.0v from an Alltrax controller even when the solenoid is open. So if you're testing your solenoid it's best to disconnect the yellow wire when you're pulling off the resistor and diode.

That is correct on an Alltrax XCT Controller since it does not use a Pre-Charge resistor to keep the capacitors charged, on a Club Car it uses the gray wire or pin #9 to keep the capacitors charged.
It is also not the negative side, both sides of the solenoid big posts have positive voltage. You can use terms like "switched side" or "cold side" to represent the side of a switch or N.O. Solenoid contact that only has power when the switch or solenoid N.O. contact is closed. |
