Default 98 Gas Club Car alternative engine

New Member, Thanks for the add.
I have a 1998 Gas Club Car with a bad FE290 engine. Is there an alternative engine that you guys know of to replace this motor without a lot of modifications?
Thanks in advance

If you want to upgrade the engine, your best bet would be to find an FE350 engine. It will give you a little bit of a boost in performance but not a lot. Any other engine besides the 290 and the 350 will require a fair amount of fabrication/engineering.

Rebuilding the FE290 is easy and cheap. Generally unless theres a massive hole in the back of the motor from the counterbalance weight they're pretty bulletproof motors. It usually takes me longer to R&R the motor than it does to actually rebuild it, and I dont know what the cylinder bore is made from but they're built to last. I've rebuilt a lot of them and never needed to overbore one or use oversize rings. Standard rings have always been well within spec, even on my 1993 that I own now.

That's the cheapest and easiest. Next easiest and not as cheap is a FE350 as said above. It will bolt right in, but the exhaust and carb are different. The rest bolts right up. It's a pretty noticeable difference, last DS I had with a FE350 would cruise around 25mph and get there quickly.
