Looking for info on my 80s rear end
I have what I believe to be an early 80s EZGO. I have an 86-1/2 - 87 owners/service manual that matches my buggy, except for the rear end. The manual shows a split gearcase. Mine is one piece with a bottom differential cover. I have seen references to a Dana rear end and a T bone rear end. I am looking for a service manual to match my gearcase. The ring gear has some corrosion on about a dozen teeth. It works, but makes a cyclic grinding noise when those teeth come around. I have a line on a used rear end, but the splines are worn on the drive shaft and I would need to swap parts. Prefer not to do it blind.

Re: Looking for info on my 80s rear end
This if on the unit I am considering. I am thinking I would need to either swap this part from my gearcase, assuming it is in better condition, or put the differential from this one into mine. I prefer the latter, as I have already cleaned it up and installed new brakes.

Re: Looking for info on my 80s rear end
Are you sure the cart was built in the early 80's.
Reason I ask is the parts manuals indicate the T-bone type rear end was used up to 1986.5, then it went to the split case for 1986.5 and 1987, going to the bottom pan type in 1988. Here is a Dana manual for 1988 and up as well; as a EZGO parts manual for 1988. |

Re: Looking for info on my 80s rear end
Thanks for the manuals! That is what I was looking for. I will look over the cart manual more closely, but the gearcase matches. Maybe mine is late 80s.
I pulled the plug and have that used rear end assembly on the way. Looks like not too much work or too difficult to pull and swap ring gears. I picked up a slide puller at a garage sale 'cause I figured it might come in handy sometime. |
