Converted cart only goes in reverse

Hello Everyone,

I’m new here and a new golf cart owner. I recently purchased Scottyb’s C54 conversion kit from carts unlimited for my 2001 Club Car DS. I’ll start by saying that I love these kits and highly recommend them to anyone looking to modernize and get more out of their carts. Unfortunately I have one small issue and I sent an email to Scotty but wanted to post here as well to see if anyone has had a similar issues that they were able to solve:

I have everything wired up correctly. Have quadruple checked the connections, but for some reason the cart will only move in reverse. The solenoid is clicking, the green light flashes on the controller when I depress the pedal just as it does in reverse, but I am getting no movement. My first thought was maybe a bad F&R but I swapped the new one out and put the old one back in and am getting the same issue.

Any ideas?

All I can think of is maybe the motor but it had been working before the conversion.

Did you do the reversing contactor, or are you using the original forward and reverse style switch? Generally if a motor will move one way, it will move the other way. The switch is what changes polarity of the motor.

No reversing contactor. I replaced the stock F&R with the HD F&R. I tried the old one as well to eliminates the chance of it being the F&R

Triple check your wiring diagram. Especially on the forward and reverse. Does it have (2) cable connections at the bottom of the forward and reverse switch? The old resistor carts has them. The one on the drivers side went to the main battery positive, and the passenger side went to the third battery positive for half speed reverse. With the conversion, both need to go to the main b+, or jumper them together.

Bottom of F&R is linked together and that wire is running to B+ on the controller. Verified that all other wires are hooked up as the diagram shows.

Ok so was messing with the F&R and when fully engaged it doesn’t move forward but if I back the F&R lever off a bit, it works. Both The old and new F&R switches are doing this. Any ideas?

I've had them do that as well. The stop isn't catching it before it goes to far. I really don't have an answer for that. Maybe someone will.
