95 DS seems to run out of fuel
So my 95 DS runs good for weeks and then has died on me a few times now. It seems to run out of fuel, the fuel filter is empty when it does. I have great pulse vacuum from the engine, i replaced all the lines and pulled the fuel pump apart to check it out (seems good). When i try starting it there is no fuel pumping into the filter at all. When i remove the fuel line from the carb it pumps like crazy (into a container) and fills the the fuel filter no problem. It almost seems like with the carb hooked up the pump barely works. I have had the carb apart and it looks good too, there was some minor dirt in the bowl but nothing crazy. The float seems to be free etc. When i let it sit for quite a while (a few hours) the fuel filter fills back up about 1/2 way. Any ideas?

Re: 95 DS seems to run out of fuel
You could have a blocked bowl vent hose, or the bowl vent nipple on the carb itself.
The bowl vent is the nipple that sticks out of the front f the carb at the very top near the throttle lever. Normally there should be a hose on it that just hangs down in front of the engine, but often that is gone because they tend to fall off. If the hose is still there make sure it's clear and air can flow through it. If the hose is gone, remove the carb and use cleaner and compressed air to make sure the nipple is clear into the bowl. If either clogs the bowl will vapor lock and fuel can't get in. Another thing to check is to make sure the pulse line is short enough that is doesn't droop down anywhere between the crankcase and the pump. It needs to go uphill the entire way. If there is a dip in the line it can collect oil and will block the pulse from getting to the pump. Also make sure the bottom of the tank is clean, and no debris is getting sucked into the pickup tube and blocking it. |
