Do you only have 2 wires there? If so, youll need to check the wires thru the harness and see where the issue is. Sounds like something is crossed. What color are the wires? White and yellow/white?

Simply put, you should have pack voltage on the "hot" side of the switch when the key is off. When switched on you should pack voltage on both sides.
Do you have a 2 position (on/off) switch? |

Yes it's a 2 wire switch both white and 2 position switch on and off
