brake lights

I spent a few hours yesterday redoing all the wiring in my '92 EZGO Marathon. For the most part everything is working fine, however I can't figure out what's going on with the brake lights.

First, let me clarify a couple things in the attached photo:
-The red wire with the inline fuse is 48v in, which is run from the solenoid so turning off the key turns off everything.
-The big yellow wire is 12v out
-The thick black bundle is the factory wiring harness. The blue wire goes to the headlights and the black wire is ground.
The red wire is what is confusing me. When I connect it, the tail lights come on as soon as I turn the key on. I can't really tell if its the brake lights or just the tail lights, but they seem pretty bright, so I think its the brakes. The other three wires don't do anything I can see. One of them I'm sure is for the marking lights, but those are not connected yet.

I have a tone generator to trace the wires, but its made for household applications and puts out so much power that the tone bleeds into every wire in the harness.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the lights, or ay experience with this?
