i would put my money on a frozen shifter cable my g9 does the same thing.

If it's like mine I don't think its the cables. I'm guessing it's in the rear. How long has it been since you changed oil in it?

It only takes a half an hour to remove the bolt from the cable where it hooks to the rear end and see if its the cable, and put it back, and you will know if it is the cable, or the rear end---My 2 cent-------

1997? Good chance that those cables are worn out. If you replace one, you might as well replace both of them. The oil in the rear end would have to have water in it and frozen to affect that shifting mechanism - IMO...

Shesh...they look to be $20 and $30 each. I think for $60 I'll take a hard look at them and see if they can be lubed.

When I shift I can see the cables working but the saddle mounted to the shaft in the rear binds. It moves but only because of the springs on the cables. I tried to adjust the cables and it just made it harder to shift. Think maybe I have moisture in my rear end. When it warms up I'll change oil and let you know how I made out.
