Default trashed but still ran!

Dads Ezgo started smoking last year so I told him I was going to rebuild it.
Now Dads not the most maintenance minded guy but I do tune up/service it every year when I do mine.
Pulled the motor apart and found a mess, there was about a 1/2 inch of sludge in the bottom of the case,
Both intake cam lobes were wiped off of it, the two intake rockers were worn down about .040 and the intake valves were so hammered that they now have a sharp knife edge all the way around them.
I wish I would have done a compression test before I pulled it apart but it actually ran rather well so I had just planned on a quick hone and piston/ring job with valve seals.
Thanks to Mike at MMT a head assy is headed my way.

I wish the pics were clearer but you can see some of the damage.

got to love these little engines, I've seen them still run and be all screwed up. they'll even run with a broke rod and a hole in the block.

Hello Jon,

I declare, that you're right.
One broken rod and a hole and still going.
Another time a broken cranck and still going.
The last time one broken rod nothing else, but going.
Now we were on the track and gess what: as if nothing happened.
