Plk, just start poking around. See if the clutch sheave wobbles on the shaft. Jack it up, see if when turning the wheels, you can find the noise. Make sure there is oil in the rearend.

My neighbor has a G8 that I have worked on and driven many times, can I join the G8 club as well as the G9 (mine is g9).

I want to be part of the two coolest clubs on bgw.com

Please say yes, I have taken to wearing sunglasses night and day and want to have an excuse, lol. Thanks for the help over the last year or so, especially Mike Mac and Sho.

PLK. My secondary sliding sheave makes a ton of noise and makes you think there is something wrong with the motor because secondary sliding sheave bushing is messed up and needs replacing and there is metal on metal grinding sometimes.

Definitely think you should take the belt off and run it, then take the driven clutch faceplate thing off and take a look.

Once you get these yamahas running good they are better than any other carts out there. Brakes, suspension, power....not trying to start a battle, I just like mine and you will be happy with it for sure.

it has to rev up alot to get to move. took off the belt and the noise stopped. so its somewhere in the rearend. hopefully its a simple fix but with my luck it wont be

Keep looking, but this is a symptom of a broken clutch weight/arm/etc in the primary on the engine.

I agree Sho, or bad bushings in the sheaves, or both. Pretty hard to break a rear end, unless you hit something with it. Could be something expensive, but now I'm betting not!

Thanks Ranger. ... Gee Sho, didn't know we were that good! I'm always tryin ta be evil, rotten, mean and nasty, and your way better at it than me!!
