Question Question about Crankshaft Seal

I have a 88 EZGO 2cyc and the seal on the clutch side is bad. Do i have to do both sides or can I just do the one side?

Well each seal has experienced the same amount of crankshaft revolutions although it could be argued that the clutch side experiences more wear (which is why there are two bearings that side). I would pull the engine and do both sides, it really is not much extra work and not much more expense. Just buy a good quality two arm steering wheel puller.

I have to agree with Dave, do both sides, you already have the motor out, and it's only a few dollars for parts, the hardest part is to get the flywheel off, and some are not that hard, good luck with it,

Take lots of pics

Well, I will do both sides of the seals, pulling the flywheel is going to be fun. Are both seals the same?

Not to barge in on this thread, but I may have to replace mine too. Are they replaceable from the outside, or does the case have to be split apart???

Just a word of advice from experiance. Clean the seal seat real good with some alcohol or sumething to that effect and the you might want to add a little loctite to each seal before installing them. They do have a history of poping back out.

Another note: On the flywheel side you'll have to remove the pulsar plate make sure after replacing the seal you reinstall it in the same position. Note where you remove the two screws and replace them in the same location then your good to go.
