Default no spark on 83 ezgo

recently got a 83 ezgo 2 stroke that has been sitting for a while. motor has good compression (120 lbs ) and good fuel flow but no spark. i've changed plug and checked wiring for breaks and bad connections but everything seems good . where do i start to look for my no spark problem and how can i test my coil , igniter , and pulsar to make sure they're ok ? what other problems could i have that would cause no spark ?

place a dc voltmeter red lead on the plus+ of the ignition coil. place the black lead to ground. Have someone crank the motor, reading should be between 11-12 v dc. If you dont get that, then your problem is between the ignition sw and the coil, there is a pedal sw ,etc, Refer to stickey schematic diagram for details. check that and report back.

found out that my coil was bad. i had a old points style coil off a chevy lying around so i thouht i'd give it a shot and the cart started but now i have a new problem. after it runs for 5-8 minutes the engine starts loosing power and seems like it is getting really hot . i disconnected the muffler thinking it may be clogged but made no difference. after it sits till its cool it will start and run good until it starts loosing power and getting hot again . could the wrong coil be causing this or does anyone have any ideas to try ?

Could be! It may be a resistor coil look at it close and see if it says internal resistor if so this could be you problem. With an ignitor or the HEI you want a 12V coil. 76 dodge or any car with and external resistor will work.
