Might not be your valves then. A few months before my cart's motor blew (a 1987 Club Car just like yours) the motor sounded like it had an exhaust leak. Then it got louder and louder. Looking back I could have described it as a ticking noise. You may be in the early stages of your connecting rod coming loose and planning its exit.

I realize this is an old thread, but I need a spring seat for a valve spring on a 1984 Club Car. Does anybody have a spare one sitting around that they would sell?

That would be great. The exhaust and intake valve spring seats are the same, so either will work.

I fished through my junk and can't find any spring seats.

But you can get them through Golf Cart Parts direct. They're my go-to when I can't find parts for these old motors.

In the link below it looks like #10 in the diagram:

Dang...A lot of people have the part listed, but it is no longer available. If anybody else has one, please let me know. Otherwise I will have to fire up the lathe!

GCPD usually has that stuff. In my experience, if you can put it in your cart, they have it. Did you call them and they said they didn't have it?

Yes, it is a drop shipped item and they said it is discontinued. They didn't have any in stock and cannot get them. I built one from a larger spring seat.
