How often do you clean your terminals?
Ok guys. Now, I use my TXT cart 95% for hunting the hills of Southwestern Pennsylvania. And I use it year round. So, the humidity will get high in the summer, and in the fall it will rain and winter we get snow and some sub-freezing temp's.
So, before I disclose how often I clean my battery terminals (and I do mean brush up the terminal along with a baking soda scrub of it, and a good brass wire brush of the connector too, then a snug fit of the bolt so it all goes back well. No under-tightening nor over-tightening done here.) How often do you clean your terminals? Of course....I'm assuming you check your water levels while doing this. |

Re: How often do you clean your terminals?
Unless you're overfilling your batteries causing overflow during charging you should never have to clean them.

Re: How often do you clean your terminals?
I check my water levels every other Friday when I do my water softener. The last time I cleaned my terminals is when I made my 2 ga wires a little over a year ago . I keep them sprayed with battery terminal protector and theres never any build up

Re: How often do you clean your terminals?
I lift the seat on mine every night while charging and as a young boy I learned to lift the seat, if I see any corrosion it's taken care of then. As to water level The cart is used about 2 1/2 to 5 miles a day, and 10 to 15 miles a day on weekends, at 48 volts I've only seen the batt. pack drop to about 85% a couple of times and I'v only added water once since converting to 48v

Re: How often do you clean your terminals?
Ohhhh, Well,
#1--I check my water levels every month. Since I purchased my new T-105's (eight 6-volts) two years ago, I believe I may have added water once. And that was very little. #2--I've not had an overflow issue when charging my batteries. #3--I clean my terminals every month to keep the contacts nice and shiny. Seems to work as I get maximum drive time from my charges. FWIW |

Re: How often do you clean your terminals?
My batteries are just over a year old, and I put DE-OX on the terminals when I installed 'em. They've stayed clean as a whistle since then. I also lift the seat during charging. I keep a bungee cord between the uprights that hold up the top - undo one side of the bungee and hook it to the back of the seat.
DE-OX is the stuff you use when connecting aluminum wire to copper contacts - you should be able to find it at any electrical supply store. RLW |

Re: How often do you clean your terminals?
I can't say that I've ever cleaned them since their installation almost five years ago. They do however have a significant amount of terminal protectant build up after all this time.

Re: How often do you clean your terminals?
at least once/year, usually twice. wire brush, clean and brush tops with baking soda solution. rinse with low pressure, keep in sun to let dry. Usually check water level once month, current NAPA (deka 6 volts) batts going on 8 years.
