Default Diode

I have a 2001 TXT PDS and I replaced the solenoid a week ago and I have been looking over some posts on here and mine did not have a diode on the small posts. It has the resistor across the large posts but no diode across the small posts.
Can I buy a 1 amp diode at radio shack and install it?

Thanks gang!!
Mike

A 1a will probably work, but, a 3a is more commonly used.

OK but it is nothing special right? Just a 3 amp diode from Radio Shack will work fine?
I am upgrading to a DCX400PDS tomorrow with a heavy duty solenoid and dont want to screw it all up.
Thanks!!

Give it a shot. Observe polarity (very very important). Silver stripe towards positive terminal.
