Default yamaha question

New to this sport, got a buddy with a yamaha with bad motor, he don't know yr or model. Says it has a 4stroke motor. What yr did they start using for stroke? Did they ever use 2cycle? Thanks

in the stickies above there is a serial# finder to id the cart
g-1 is two stroke no shift lever just the key switch to get F-R 70's to mid 80's
g-2 is 4 stroke and has a shift lever not a F-R key switch

G1 first cart was 2 stroke in 78 to about 89 iirc, G2 came out late 80s was first 4 stroke, G9 out in 91 was improved G2 more or less. All newer yamaha g14/etc and up are 4 stroke. There are a few other models with the same frame/mechanicals as the G1 and G2 but were not sold nearly as much, such as the G8.

It was on craigslist with bad motor. Guy didn't know what yr. Or couldn't post pics. And was two hrs. Away. 4 stoke blown motor body good 175 dollars. Turns out it was a 1997 decent cart and sold already. I should of took the risk.
