Default Bolting in Marathon Battery Tray instead of Welding?

This is my first cart, and first post, so please go easy. I have a 1992 EZGO Marathon that I picked up for $150. Everything seems to be in decent shape, except for the battery tray, which is nearly gone. I can do alot, but I can't weld. It looks like I could bolt a tray in with a little fabricating. Are there reasons why I shouldn't do this?

Bolt heads will create wear points on the battery cases. Yes, even carriage bolt heads.

no reason at all.....for starters, the battery tray is bolted in from the factory....and you can buy a new one from EZGO for $139

Thanks for the quick response! I should've mentioned that I was going to use flat head bolts so that they are flush.

Just make sure to coat everything with a good epoxy primer or POR type product to prevent it rusting out again.

I would say you prolly can bolt it in. OTOH, if you can find a welding guy to do it for cheap....and of course "cheap" is relative, but welding would be a better option. But, if that's not in the cards....."Then a man's got to do what a man's got to do."

Thanks for the responses. I have a friend that can weld, but he's 100 miles away. I think I'm going to try bolting it in.
