Re: 88 marathon w/robin 2 cycle
To all that have responded. Did the checks as as JohnnyG suggested, voltage regulator is working, removed cover and cleaned the contacts on the relay, inspected wiring, all looks good. Started the engine with cart sitting on stands. Engine runs but hisses and sputters no matter where the throttle is, like it's trying to reverse or
Is firing out of time. This engine uses the enunciator, for ignition. IDEAS PLEASE?? |

Re: 88 marathon w/robin 2 cycle
What lead up to this problem? Did it progressively get worse? Backfire pop and start running bad?

Re: 88 marathon w/robin 2 cycle
Sean, it ran GREAT after replacing the coil, spark plug and wire. Prior to replacing them it was hard to start not a lot of power ect. Then it started degrading. I'm considering re-replacing the coil wit a brand name Delco, Bosch, the one I installed was an off shore Standard Ignition 12 volt dc a generic.

Hmmmmm....ok what do you mean the engine hisses? Do you have a part number on the coil you used? Perhaps I can find you a test for it so your not wasting money....it seems as though your on the right track I'm just not sure about this hissing you describe

Re: 88 marathon w/robin 2 cycle
The hissing seems to be when it misfires, like firing way before it should. Wondering now if it could be a back pressure problem. Will disconnect muffler tomorrow

Dang. Just grabbing at straws here, but the reeds ok? Intake leaking?
Muffler a possibility. I did do a gut and re-weld on mine (guts were rattling) I'm assuming you've been thru the carb too. crank seals? |

Re: 88 marathon w/robin 2 cycle
Johnny, been thru carb, even changed to a walbro pumper type, we use on 250cc yamahaw race engines for go carts Same results. Haven't had time to remove muffler, will try to get it done tomorrow...
