Default EZGO - 2007 PDS - Just died...

Hi all,

Tons of knowledge on here!!

A friend had borrowed my golf cart to ride around campground, and it just died on him.

When we pushed it back to site, the battery indicator showed 50% or so, so it was pretty low. I charged it over night.

Indicator showed fully charged, however the cart just wouldnt budge.

I had another friend who helped trouble shoot a bit, we jumped either side of soliniod with jumper cables and the cart would move, albeit not with much power.

So I ordered another one, installed it, but still cart wont go.

I am somewhat handy, and if possible, would like some tips or what to even research on fixing it myself. I dont mind taking it in somewhere if need be, but wouldnt mind taking a stab at it myself.

Any ideas? I do hear the clicking sound when depressing the gas, and lights/radio work.

Thanks for any info !

Running the batteries low on voltage increases the amperage draw dramatically which in turn increases the controller heat which... can fry electronics.
Did you lift the seat and put the run/tow switch in the tow position before pushing the cart back to camp?

Yes, I did the the switch over to Tow.

Also, not sure if relevant, but the past few weekends have noticed the backup beeper not working unless fully charged.

**

After checking stickies, it looks like I need to try this tonight when I get home.

Testing of the EZGO ELECTRONIC SPEED CONTROL - SERIES & PDS (NON DCS)
ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE BEFORE REMOVING CONTROLLER COVER. RE-CONNECT CABLE AFTER COVER IS REMOVED.
These test are to be conducted after making sure all wires and connections are clean and tight.
PLACE THE REAR OF THE CART SECURELY ON BLOCKS OR JACK STANDS FOR SAFETY
Connect (-) probe of meter on Battery Pack Negative (-) post. (This probe will on the post for the rest of the testing procedures) Connect (+) probe to the Battery Pack Positive (+) battery post. (This reading is the Battery Voltage and the amount of POWER TO THE CONTROLLER -
NOW, Key switch ON, gear selector in FORWARD, Place the (+) probe on the battery side of the solenoid's large post (If the reading is below battery voltage, check all wiring and terminals).
Place the (+) probe to the controller side of the solenoid's large post. The reading should be 0.1 to 3 volts less than battery voltage. If the reading is more than 3 volts less the battery voltage, the resistor is faulty. If the voltage is the same as the battery voltage, replace the solenoid.

Just to clarify - is the solenoid clicking when you try to go in F and in R ?

What is the battery pack voltage now?

I hate to revive this old thread, but actually going to start working on this now.

:)

Charged batteries last night, when I go home I will test the pack and get some voltage readings.

Once again I appreciate the help, and hope to get some more info to get my cart up and going.

Ok, been charging batteries 2 at a time, and here are the readings I have...

Bat1 6.06
Bat2 6.14
Bat3 6.36
Bat4 6.36
Bat5 6.26
Bat6 6.25
Pack 37.3

I did the solenoid test (in tow position) and got
Battery side: 37.2
Controller side: 35.3

Soooo... according to the sticky post, that means the solenoid is bad. however, I am 95% sure I put in the new one I bought in october. However, I am not positive...

I will look to see if i can find any markings that may help.

Anything else to test??? I am assuming I put the new solenoid on correctly :)

I am going to charge entire cart with powerwise charger see if I can get to max charge. Other than that... Is there a way to test the solenoid that I have in the glovebox to see if it is good without it being in the cart??

You could test the individual cells in each battery with a hygrometer.
Get at auto parts and get one with glass float, not the floating ball type.
It you have a bad cell you can tell real quick.
Battery pack looks ok with some imbalance.
A couple are low so see what the hygrometer reads.

Need to check voltage dropout under load also.
This also tells a lot about battery health.

Do this battery test...
put the meter on the pack and try to go.
After the solenoid clicks and the pedal is fully depressed, what is the batery pack reading then?
