Default How screwed am I?

I have a 03 ezgo txt. Went to move it the other day and it wouldn't start. Found it was pushing compression out of the carb so i pulled the valve cover and the cam wasnt spinning. Pulled the timing cover and found the cam and timing gear broke. Anyone have this happen before? Can i replace the cam and gear and be ok? Also is oil supposed to come out of both sides of the head to oil the valve train? Mine only has oil coming out of the pass side when i spin the motor over so im wondering if the cam seized causing the gear to break off.

Best bet is get the engine off the cart and tear it down. Total inspection is called for here.

Thinking that's about correct!

Are you saying it was fine when parked! and happened at last shutdown??
or did someone have it out when you didn't know it?
would make a difference on how much metal went though the engine.
Bottom end could still be good? But I think I would take it apart and inspect it.

also compression through carb, intake valve open, did valve hit the piston?

Total tear down has to be done, or you may put it back together to just blow it up again.

Keep us up to speed on what you find with pic's.

GOOD LUCK

The oil comes from the oil pump on the right/pass. side top. The rocker cover has an opening with an o-ring that lines up with the oil pump passage, that opening feeds oil to a tube that is molded in the rocker cover. The tube is is drilled with several small holes that spray or shower oil onto the rockers and cam to provide lubrication. Any engine that has sat for an extended period of time, I will remove the rocker cover and pour oil into the oil pump passage to reprime the oil pump. I have seen some where the pump had lost prime and the engine was started without lubrication destroying the cam bearing surfaces causing the cam to seize.

I'm assuming this is what happened, looks like I'm in for a full rebuild just to be safe. Thanks

We had a customer that had this same issue. They did a full rebuild to be safe and that worked out great. Better to be on cautions side, I'd say. Good luck with everything!
