Default Motor test 36 volt ezgo marathon

Placed jumper from S1 to A2 then A1 to positive S2 to negative 12 volts nothing happened, seen on another site A1 to S1 then A2 to S2 A1 to positive A2 to negative hooked to 12volts the motor turned but slow battery got hot. Any help appreciated.
