The pickle fork is the way to go if you are replacing the end and boot.
I had a ball joint separator and was too big of course. Got the tie rod version for $10. It was off with three good raps. If you for some reason want to remove without boot damage then do this. Tip from another thread somewhere. You will need a loooong crowbar which I had. Run under drag link or tie rod and on to the frame a ways back. Pry up a little, does not have to be a lot. Rap side of spindle arm a couple of times and it will pop off. No boot damage. Also note the torque specs on these nuts. Mine was 18-22 ft lb. Not at lot. I used anti-seize on the cone but not on the nut. |

Good tip! I do that often on bigger equipment, [with a lot bigger hammer lol] Hitting on the end of the steering arm yields better results, [less deflection of the arm.] Hasn't failed me yet.
