Default New motor for an '82 EZGO Can I use an '86?

I'm a newbie member, and I promise I read several threads before asking, but can I upgrade the motor by just swapping out for a new motor?

My EZGO is fairly original it seems. An electric 1982. Also, it's slow. REAL slow. I believe my cart is currently somewhere around 14mph.

The batteries are less than a year old according to the person I just purchased it from. So naturally, my newb brain thought "why not a better or newer motor?"

Looking online, it's tough to find one for this old cart. Add to that I'm not wealthy, and I'm wondering if I can just swap out the old motor for a newer model. Can that be done? Currently it has 5bc48jb700 model

Thanks in advance everyone. I truly appreciate the advice.

If you need parts, I still have a 1985 Marathon that I removed the motor from and sent to another member here. It's an old cart, but pretty much there minus the batteries and motor. I was gonna remove the rear axle and front end parts that might could be used on my 1973 Marathon and shove the carcass into a hole and bury it. The frame is badly rusted but there's a lot of good body parts and such. Where are you located?

Hi Bob, that's a nice offer and thank you! I'm in Burbank. And because apparently I'm thoroughly nuts, I just purchased a '94 from a guy on craigslist for $300 that needs some love, but at least I'll be able to give her that love with some more easily obtainable parts.

Yuppirs, more parts availability. Good luck with the project and welcome to the addiction!
