1991 Marathon: help with sometimes doesn't go
This is a controller cart and not resistor.
Just acquired this cart with little history and it's a bit rough around the edges. Ran 5 for a few minutes when I tested drove it. Now noticing a few issues... 1. Runs perfect going backwards 2. Every 4th or 5th attempt at going forward and nothing happens or really slow. Usually simply reseting the F/W switch solves the need and off I go. I do hear the micro switches and solenoid fire up. It's the original low amp solenoid and the F/R switch looks old. I've cleaned the heck out of the batteries, de-acid everything, cleaned all terminals on the battery as well to the F/R switch and the batteries have respectable voltage showing. Now that I put it back together I'm getting some intermittent "go" in reverse now too! While before it was fine...and forward is doing a bit better? Does this sound like classic solenoid? Another article I read said check all wiring as well as a worn F/R switch I see there is little to go wrong in these systems and everything is old. I'm not for throwing money as parts as diagnostics but I"m wondering if a new F/R switch and high amp (silver) solenoid (with new resister and diode) are the way to go. thoughts? Thx. Newbie. |
