If the battery trays are wasted you can buy a real nice aluminum drop in replacement from one of the buggy suppliers.

Was the 400 amp controller only available on 2001 and up models?

Nope. My 2000 shuttle (2+2) came with the Curtis 1205-117 400 amp controller. It also had the 1.87KW motor. I know its factory because I'm the original and only owner.
On this forum we have also seen this motor and controller show up on regular fleet carts also. Doesn't seem to be any reason or pattern necessarily. All "series" carts so far I think.
EZGO still makes the shuttle 2+2 on both the TXT and RXV chassis. The rear seats look to bolt on just like you can get after market. No electrical upgrades over the standard carts either. Not the same as they used to make.

No, that part no. implies a 275 amp controller. Possibly someone has replaced the original or maybe not all shuttles had the same controller originally. Hard to tell in the golf cart world.
Pictures or the battery bay would be helpful.

If the 1205 400amp is actually in there on the original mount you would have to take it out to see the label because its on the end opposite the electrical connections facing down.

EZGO item no. 73060G01 is the controller in my cart

If you were not lucky enough to get the 400A controller you could just get this new one on eBay for $180. I've used this controller too, this one is 500A. It's survived lots of abuse and is well worth $180. http://www.ebay.com/itm/P125M-5603-5...FXc3p2&vxp=mtr
