Shock extended. Is it broken?
Hey all. See the attached picture. Is this shock broken? It absolutely doesn’t look like the other side or what I would expect. If broken what parts do I need to fix it. It does certainly look like someone did an after market job on it.
Thanks in advance. 2014 Bad Boy Buggie Safari |

Re: Shock extended. Is it broken?
Looks like spring is collapsed not shock.
Notice how shock is extended but not spring.spring dicktates how hi or lo cart sits. Shocks only dampen suspension travel Guessing cart is not siting level left to right, correct? |

Re: Shock extended. Is it broken?
Looks like it has broken in some way and the PO has used some makeshift parts to attempt some sort of repair. Can't believe it is supposed to have an aluminum spacer at the top where a rubber bushing would be used on any other application.
The spring isn't necessarily collapsed. Some mfrs will wind the spring coils close together at the ends to help the spring stay in alignment when compressed. Show us the other shock. |

Re: Shock extended. Is it broken?
Revisited pictures. Even if spring is collapsed, shock “should” compress with spring.
Should be bushings, washers ect. “Your shocks extended above upper shock mount”That allows shock to travel up and down but not stay extended when spring compresses. Aluminum spacer maybe belongs on bottom of upper shock mount, not above? Hard to discribe but maybe look at a stock shock mounting on another cart. Top of shocks shaft usually has a metal washer that slides on shaft, rubber bushing next, then shaft slides up into upper mounts hole. Once thru rubber bushing followed by metal washer then lock nut. This arrangement allows shock to dampen ride thru suspensions range of motion up and down. Typically if suspension travel is increased from stock. Longer travel shock will be used. Shock extenders cause shock to bottom out before suspension travel reaches full compression thus defeating purpose of longer travel suspension. |

Re: Shock extended. Is it broken?
Thanks. Spring isn't collapsed. I originally thought that could be too but cart measures the same distance to the ground on both sides. I agree that aluminum spacer doesn’t belong. I think I just need to replace it and the hardware. That should fix it. There is nothing under the frame to allow the shock to compress.

Re: Shock extended. Is it broken?
You should have something like this https://www.golfcartking.com/ezgo-shock-bushing-kit/ that sandwiches the shock mount. Looks like the holes in the shock mount might be a little too big.
