Advice needed on rebuilding 2004 Yamaha (gmax?)
Hello, I acquired a 2004 Yamaha Limo style gas golf cart. I was told it was parked due to engine trouble (possibly blown). It sat for 7 years untouched and when I opened the backseat the engine was gone. It may be possible to find the engine but I'm not holding my breath. Even if I found the engine its likely to need some major repairs as the previous owner gave up on it. My budget is about $1500 for the complete project to have it completed back in good running condition. I dont need it to go over 20mph, or climb mountains etc... just working in a reliable condition to drive for family time or work projects. I do need it to have reverse due to where I live. My personal experience with small engines is limited to carb work.
Questions: 1. Is it worth fixing or should I run from it as did the previous owner :) 2.What are my options for an engine? 3. Should I buy oem or use this as an opportunity to go with a larger engine for more torque/speed (I remember it being slow when it ran). 4. Any ideas on what I should expect a golf cart repair place to charge to put an engine in it. 5. Is it possible within or close to my budget? Thank you in advance! My vote is for big block conversion kit using Vanguard v twin engine. Only downside there is cost.

Your whole situation makes the Vegascarts VC 625 IMHO the best option since you have no present engine, a $1500 budget, and a cart that could use the power of an engine swap. You can look at their site for step by step instructions on installing a 625 in a yamaha. It is a pretty easy bolt in.

Take a look at the Vegas Carts 625 kit. It's pretty much a bolt in install. It'll have plenty of power and it'll be perfect for a limo cart. I think it may be a little more than $1500 but spend the money anyways and get the kit. The ease of just bolting it in is well worth the extra cost.

I'll give Vegas carts a call tomorrow and see what my options are. I think the Vanguard option might be out of my reach in both price and ability. Thank you guys for your suggestions!

If you want to go stock, you can get a brand new motor, with brand new carb from Yamaha for less than $1500. You would need to find the stock airbox, stock clutch, and the stock starter/generator.

Another option would be to call Don Plowman, see what he has ready to go as far as Yamaha engines. https://www.plowmanscarts.com/ |
